Remember I mentioned that Steve McQueen’s 1970 Porsche 911S – a beautiful car that featured in his Le Mans film – was up for sale? Well, the hammer went down and a new world record was set. Someone parted with US$1.375 million for the keys to this slate-grey motor car.
Unfortunately it wasn’t me or Wattsie – I’ve checked with him. According to the auctioneers, McQueen’s run-around was the 200th million-dollar car to be sold at auction. I don’t think we’ll sell one for that much anytime soon, but we do have this one on the GWA Cars & Finance forecourt: a 2008 Porsche 911 Carerra 2 PDK Coupe for £42,999.
Staying with Porsches, the new Porsche 911 was given its motor show debut a few weeks ago in Germany. Shaping up leaner and meaner, it looks like a whole lot of fun and we’d be only too happy to order you one for December when it arrives in UK showrooms.
Also unveiled at Frankfurt was the new Land Rover DC 100 Defender Sport Concept. Not sporty in the same way the Porsche 911 is, but this car is well worth a look. It’s a real move into Range Rover Evoque territory and one that is likely to divide opinion. Apparently Land Rover is listening as it decides what direction to take with the marque.
In the meantime, as we’re in cross-over territory, we have this 2008 Mercedes Benz ML320 CDi Edition 10 on the forecourt for £25,899.
