The march of the Jaguar E-Types is on again – they’ve been spotted in convoy in London on their way to the opening of the 2011 Motorexpo. The model is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the party includes something special at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is only a few weeks away.
I saw a similar convoy on its way up to Goodwood earlier this year – en route to the Geneva Motor Show – and seeing the recent run reminded me of a very special E-Type that I had the good fortune to learn more about a few years back. Whether he’s still got it I don’t know, but Lord Cowdray has owned and driven the car that was reportedly one of the first E-Types to come out of the Jaguar factory.
The 1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Fixed Head Competition Coupé is better known by its famous number plate, CUT 7. You can see it in action here, getting the better of a Lotus Elan. CUT 7, an ex-Jaguar Experimental Department E-Type, was built for race car driver Dick Protheroe and went on to compete at the likes of Silverstone, Mallory Park and Crystal Palace. Fingers crossed, we might see it at Goodwood in July.
While this Jaguar is probably a little too expensive for most people’s budgets, GWA Cars & Finance can provide finance for the manufacturer’s more modestly priced road cars. We have a 2006 Jaguar X-Type 2.0 Diesel Sport Saloon for £8,495 on the forecourt and, staying with speed, this 2006 BMW Z4 Sport Roadster Convertible (£10,955), which is also capable of a brusque pace.
