With the Goodwood Festival of Speed looming into view, I thought I should balance out the soon-to-be-upon-us deluge of supercars with some green car news. BMW and VW have both announced the introduction of greener models.
BMW is launching what it calls the most efficient version of the 5-series, the 520d ED, in this country in September. The German car boffins have dialled down the CO2 levels and increased the mpg figure. Also, you can now get your hands on the new VW Passat Bluemotion. The company’s Bluemotion technology is based around its stop/start and battery regeneration systems, which means more mpg and fewer emissions.
GWA Cars & Finance can source and provide the finance for any new VW or BMW. We have the new four-door VW Passat Saloon available for £264 per month and a 2006 four-door VW Passat 1.9 TDi SE Saloon on the forecourt for £7,995.
From German efficiency to Great British efficiency of sorts: Le Tour des Old Farts is under way and on course. The wind and the rain is making the West Country hills even more of a rollercoaster ride for Wattsie and Chris, but they are on target, averaging a huge 77 or so miles a day.
The daring day-glow duo reached Bristol on Monday night, having started off from Land’s End on Saturday. You can keep up with all their exploits as they continue up the country on their blog.
