What do you think of the fox? As an urban menace, upsetting dustbins, terrorising small children and screeching at a piercing volume in the middle of the night? (Just as two specimens were doing outside my bedroom window very early the other morning).

Or, is it an animal under constant threat from men dressed in silly outfits on horses and their dogs and from club-wielding vigilantes seeking revenge for alleged urban misdeeds? (Although it turns out that the latter was a hoax. The fox wasn’t even a fox – it was a dog with a faux bushy tail attached – and the only beating meted out was to a cuddly toy).

Personally, when I think of a fox, I think of the VW Fox. Well, today at least. Nifty and comfortable, this baby VW is a great city run-around with a decent, entry-level price. We’ve got a used black VW 1.2 Fox Urban for sale (£5,995). There are more details on the website here.

As for real foxes, I can live with them, although I would appreciate any advice on how to stop them performing their 3am sonatas under my window.
