Another weekend, another event, but this time it was a really big one: the Goodwood Revival. The cars are always superb, not to mention the bikes, the planes – at the Aerodrome and doing the displays – and, of course, the outfits.
Lots and lots of people always make the effort to get dressed up and I’m sure I spent as much time admiring the costumes as I did the cars. But it’s the cars that are the main attraction for me and I was lucky enough to get into the Paddock area and up close and personal with the cars taking part in the weekend’s track action.
Highlights would have to be an unusual baby blue 1960 Ferrari 250 GT, which was driven by former British racing driver John Fitzpatrick, and a black 1963 Jaguar E-type lightweight low drag driven by Derek Bell.
I also enjoyed looking around the Earls Court Motor Show at the Revival and the cars up for sale as part of the Bonhams Collectors’ auction. Sadly, I left my cheque book at home, so the black 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and royal blue 1959 Aston Martin DB4 that caught my eye had to go to someone else.
From pre-1966 cars to much newer models: we’ve got some good deals on new cars at the moment, including a smart-looking VW Passat Saloon and a sporty Mazda MX5 Convertible. Remember, buy before the end of the year and you’ll save quite a bit on VAT (which goes up in January).
