It was the Beaulieu International Autojumble at the weekend, which is an event I like popping to when I can. It’s not too far away from the GWA Cars & Finance offices and it’s always lots of fun – a real treasure trove.
It has been a while since I’ve bought anything meaningful there, but it’s fascinating just wandering among the stands, of which someone said there were more than 2,000 this year. Parts, collectables, there’s everything you might need and plenty that you never realised you did.
I always visit the National Motor Museum there as well, but what I think is the real hidden gem is the motoring archive that they keep at Beaulieu. I was lucky enough to get a rare tour a few years back and it is just incredible what they have stored in what is a pretty non descript building.
Aside from the cars and the various parts and attachments, there is a huge film archive. When I was there, we were shown footage from a 60s Grand Prix from Europe and it was amazing to see how unprotected the drivers and the crowd were. No tyre walls, no fencing – just a track, surrounded by grass with spectators standing at the side!
From parts, accessories and classic motoring to much newer cars that all meet our high standards: we have some good deals on used cars and vans at the moment, including a smart VW Golf 2.0 GT TDI and an economical Citroen Berlingo 1.6HDi Panel Van (plenty of space for anything you might discover at Beaulieu!).
