This week’s blog has something of an eastern flavour, with news on massive investment in car manufacturing facilities in the Far East and the opening of a petrolhead’s dream theme park in the Middle East.

Business is booming for General Motors and Volkswagen in China. The US giant has announced that its Chinese division will sell more cars than its domestic business in 2010, which must go down as important milestone not just for the manufacturer but also the car industry in general.

Volkswagen has announced plans to build two new production facilities in China by 2014, while Jaguar is also getting in on the act and is searching for a Chinese partner. If it does find one, it will follow in the footsteps of Peugeot Citroen, whose joint venture in China is planning major growth.

From one red giant to another, Ferrari has launched Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. The opening of the theme park is bound to receive huge coverage during the forthcoming Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix (nice timing) and highlights include a 20-storey tower ride that recreates the G-force experienced by racing drivers.
