The glamour couldn’t last forever on the GWA Cars & Finance news desk. Over the last few weeks, I’ve talked about Aston Martins, Maseratis, Rolls Royces and more; this week the object of my attention is vans. Keep reading.
It’s not often I feel sorry for the white van man (and woman), but new EU regulations on CO2 limits have got me feeling just that. Not only are they having to contend with sky-high petrol prices and pothole-littered roads, but now the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ECEA) says that the price of new models could rise thanks to the new rules.
According to the ECEA, the problem lies in the time frame needed for developing new technologies to a stage where they can be cost-effectively applied to new vans. The new rules begin to kick in as soon as 2014.
But, that’s not to say innovation isn’t already under way. Ford has recently announced that its electric-powered Ford Transit Connect Electric van will go on sale in the UK this summer. The company has also said that all its Transits will use Stage V engine technology, designed to improve fuel economy and lower emissions, by the end of 2011.
I’ll be keeping an eye on those developments, but in the meantime GWA Cars & Finance has some good deals on vans. We have a new VW Transporter Van 2.0TDi SWB available for £247 per month and a special offer on a new Renault Trafic Sport SL27dci, from £224 per month.
