Aston Martin has been in the news a lot this last week. The original James Bond Aston Martin DB5 is up for sale, while the British carmaker has unveiled its premium supermini for the city, the Aston Martin Cygnet.
The Cygnet is Aston Martin’s luxury commuter car and is expected to be the first in a range of smaller cars from the company as it works to comply with new EU regulations on CO2 emissions targets. I’m not sure what Bond would say, but it looks smart and arguably is ideally sized to evade henchmen on today’s congested city roads. So, more for Craig than Connery.
As you might expect, when it is launched in 2011, it won’t be cheap – early estimates put it at the best part of £30,000. So, start saving now, although you may have more time than you think – it will be initially restricted to buyers who already own an Aston. See the Cygnet at the 2010 Geneva motor show here. Interestingly, the Cygnet is based on the Toyota IQ, which will cost you a lot less: about a third of the price.
In a different price bracket altogether is the original Aston Martin DB5 from Goldfinger and Thunderball – it is expected to reach £4 million at auction this month. It is one of two from the movies and the only one in circulation (the other was stolen in the 1990s and has yet to reappear). It is still boasts Bond’s gadgets, although many are just props: the front-mounted machine guns don’t fire bullets and the ejector seat won’t actually eject your passenger.
GWA Cars & Finance can source and arrange finance on Aston Martins, both new and used. If you like a bit of speed, we have a used Mercedes SL 350 Convertible Auto currently available for a very good price. If you’re interested in a city round-around and would rather go Toyota than Aston, we have a special offer on a Toyota Aygo 1.0 VVTi (from just £129 per month).
