The GWA Cars & Finance news desk normally spends quite a bit of time discussing how good (and bad) cars look, but this week I want to talk about aesthetics of a different kind. Range Rover and Lexus have signed up Victoria Beckham and Kylie Minogue respectively.

Victoria Beckham will style a special edition of the new Range Rover Evoque compact SUV, which I’ve talked about before here, while Lexus is going to use Kylie to promote its new CT 200h hatchback hybrid.

I think it’s a smart move by both manufacturers. The relatively diminutive Range Rover Evoque, or Baby Range, is the perfect vehicle (excuse the pun) for developing the marque’s sales outside its testosterone-fuelled male core market. Having the former Posh Spice design a special model is, in this respect, deft planning.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, it may even secure a few sales for Range Rover, although the Evoque comes with quite a price tag. If your budget doesn’t quite stretch that far, how about a Range Rover 3.6 TDV8 HSE Sport Auto from the GWA Cars & Finance forecourt? It’s available for £34,000.

Kylie is also a good bet to do for the Lexus CT 200h what she did for the Ford Ka. In a challenging global marketplace, giving your new model the broadest possible consumer base is a shrewd step and who better to promote it to female drivers than the iconic Miss Minogue?
