Happy new year from the GWA Cars & Finance news desk! We may be starting 2011 talking about the VAT increase, but there is plenty to look forward to, not least some very interesting hybrids and a bevy of supercars.
The first diesel-electric hybrid, the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4, goes on sale in March. Positioned as a top-of-the-range model, early previews say it will be worth the wait and the price tag of around £26,000.
Other hybrids coming our way in 2011 include the Saab 9-4X and the new Q3 and Q5 from Audi – I’ve already talked about the latter Audi. It’s also worth mentioning the electric Renault Zoe, which we’ll see this year. Only about £14,000 after the government grant, could this be the next big city car?
As for supercars, the spring is due to bring us the new road car from McLaren: the McLaren MP4-12C. With Ferrari in its sights on and off the racetrack, this is a much-anticipated arrival from the company best known for its F1 exploits. Other supercars hitting the road this year include the Aston One-77 and a new Lamborghini Murcielago.
Somewhere in between the hybrids and the supercars is the Volkswagen Beetle. A new version will be launched in the autumn. The latest take on the German people’s car comes with a fresh design, apparently flatter and sportier, which could endear it to a whole new audience.
If you can’t wait for the Renault Zoe for a city run-around, we have a great deal on a new Peugeot 107 Urban, available from only £115 per month. Alternatively, we have a previously cherished Toyota IQ 1.0 VVT-I on the forecourt for a VAT-free £8,995.
