If you consider Aston Martin’s move into the supermini arena with its soon-to-be launched Cygnet somewhat curious (read our blog here), then I have more unusual stories from the GWA Cars & Finance news desk this week.
The speed demons at Porsche have announced plans to introduce a hybrid model for every vehicle in its range. A hybrid Cayenne yes, but a Boxster with a battery? Well, that’s a little harder to imagine. What the manufacturers’ core market will make of the idea of plug-in high performance remains to be seen.
Not that Porsche is alone is grasping the high-performance hybrid nettle. Jaguar unveiled its electric supercar, the C-X75, at the Paris Motor Show back in September. It’s only at the concept stage, but it looks sleek and the company says it’s the fastest ever electric road car. Powered by gas turbine technology, it’s capable of reaching speeds of over 200 miles an hour.
What’s more, Jaguar says that the car can go for 500 miles before needing a recharge, which is significantly longer than any model currently on the market. It will be interesting to see if this model makes the showroom.
