That doesn’t sound like an unreasonable GWA Cars & Finance wish list does it? OK, maybe I need to drop the new McLaren MP4-12C, but I think paying lower fuel duty and less car tax seems reasonable given the current economic climate.
I don’t usually bare the GWA Cars & Finance political teeth, but just this once (well, until next time), I want to say that the Great British driver needs a break. And, it would appear that maybe our Chancellor agrees with me, to some extent anyway. With fuel duty on petrol already accounting for 58.95p a litre, George Osborne looks set to scrap a rise in the rate due to come into force in April.
Do it George, you know it makes sense. And, while you’re at it, how about introducing a fairer car tax system for company car drivers? This is what the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association is calling for. What do they want? A technology-neutral company car tax framework. When do they want it? I’m thinking, now.
And, what could we do with these savings? Buy one of the fastest road cars on earth, the V8 twin turbo powered, 592bhp, 205mph-reaching McLaren MP4-12 C. Well, at nearly £170,000 this is unlikely for most of us, but that doesn’t mean we can’t look and go “wow”. It broke cover at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year and will hit our roads this summer.
If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to the new McLaren, how about this previously cherished BMW Z4 Roadster 3.0i SE? There are 36,000 miles on the clock and it’ll cost you £9,995. Or, this Mercedes ML63 AMG 4-Matic Auto? Just 12,000 on the clock and a price tag of £37,995.
