Where GWA Cars & Finance leads, national newspapers follow. The Sunday Times In Gear motoring supplement had a big article on the switching off of speed cameras by Oxfordshire County Council at the weekend. It’s nice to know that we’re blazing the trail for Murdoch et al.
Staying on the topic of speed, I ventured up to Goodwood Motor Circuit on Sunday for their Breakfast Club meeting. The theme was Performance Car Legends and there were plenty of cars that were clearly never designed for practicality.
There were swathes of TVRs, a healthy scattering of Ferraris, a bounty of Astons, a wealth of Lotus Elises and much more. Among the more unusual cars on display were a red Lamborghini Diablo, a customised 1964 Ford Dodge and a very butch-looking Ford Capri.
My favourite was a muscular, late-60s Aston Martin GT whose colour I can best describe as chocolate: very much of its time, but still fantastic looking. A similar model is thrown around by James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
The blonde I was with was taken with one of a few light aircraft parked amongst the cars – this one offers an intimate (up close it looked really tiny inside) 21-hour, multi-stop journey from Wichita, Kansas to Goodwood. My brunette friend decided her favourite was a black Aston Martin Rapide.
Continuing with the speed theme, we have some great used cars available at the moment. My favourite is the Audi TTS 2.0 FSi Quattro Coupe Automatic (£28,000) – two door, convertible and in phantom black pearl. We’ve also got a very sporty Mini Cooper S 1.6 (£14,595) for sale.
