More news on the electric car front this week: Honda is set to debut a hybrid version of its Jazz at the Paris Motor Show. The new Jazz should be eligible for the government’s Plug-In Car Grant that I mentioned last time.
The car will have the same engine (1.3 litre, i-VTEC) as the Honda Insight, which was the first hybrid available in North America, beating the Toyota Prius by some seven months. No news on the price yet, but hopefully, even without the possibility of a £5,000 discount, it won’t be out of reach for you and me. The new Jazz will be available from early 2011.
From eco-friendlier to gas guzzling, I popped up to Goodwood Motor Circuit on Sunday for the Goodwood Breakfast Club (Yep, I know that’s two in a row – but it was great). The theme was pre-1966 classics and there were some awesome cars on display.
Among a wealth of MGs and some truly huge old Ford Mustangs and Cadillacs (they must use a phenomenal amount of fuel), there were some fantastic Aston Martin DB4s, an incredible Rolls Royce flat back truck and a beautiful vintage Mercedes.
Talking of Deutsch marques, we currently have some new models on offer, including Mercedes, BMWs, Volkswagens and Audis. Buy one before the end of the year and you’ll benefit from less VAT – remember it goes up to 20% from January.
