Some interesting news landed on the GWA desk this week from the Department for Transport. According to a report commissioned by the department, contrary to popular belief, the load a van carries has remarkably little impact on its CO2 output.
The controversial findings from the research carried out by environmental consultancy AEA will certainly have turned some heads and will no doubt be seized upon by manufacturers whose vans have been a target for green campaigners.
Once such manufacturer is Volkswagen, which has launched its Volkswagen Caddy BlueMotion van. The Caddy BlueMotion is the company’s response to the growing trend for more eco-friendly and greener commercial vehicles.
Going back to the Department for Transport report, we may see a greater number of new vans like the smaller size Volkswagen Caddy BlueMotion, as the research also found that aerodynamics have more impact on emissions than load. So, the larger the van, the less green it is. Maybe we’ll see a new graduated taxation system.
Talking of Volkswagen, the GWA Cars & Finance team has a special deal on the new Volkswagen Passat Diesel Saloon 2.0 Highline TDI CR DPF at the moment. We can supply this car from just £259 a month. Aesthetics, safety and build quality all rolled into one.
