A local news special from the GWA Cars & Finance blog this week! Rolls Royce, which is based just down the road at Goodwood, has announced that it is going electric. Another one-time bastion of British motoring going down this road is Jaguar, whose electric concept car has picked up a major gong.

The Phantom Experimental Electric (EE), or the 102EX, will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March and joins a swelling tide of electric car innovation, but Rolls Royce are far from jumping on a bandwagon. The one-off 102EX will act as a barometer for the development of future greener technology at the company.

What will current owners and enthusiasts think of an electric Roller? I think much will rest on the performance of this new car and, as the new Phantoms already run very quietly, buyers’ desire to cut down on emissions. I’m not sure that such concerns are a priority when buying a Rolls Royce. We shall see.
