“Anything McLaren can do, we can do better” might have been the rallying cry at Jaguar Land Rover when they came up with the new Jaguar-Williams supercar. Whatever the reasoning, the Jaguar C-X75 will be put into production in the coming years.
Of course, the Jaguar-Williams C-X75 won’t directly compete with the McLaren MP4-12C road car, chiefly because the former is a petrol-hybrid supercar. Still, it will do 0-60mph in three seconds, powered by two electric motors, and have a top speed of 200mph. Not bad.
And, for £700,000, in a few years it can be yours. No, it won’t be on my shopping list any time soon either. But one electric car that could be – and an affordable hybrid is something I think the whole country has been waiting for – is the new Renault Twizy. Bad name but interesting, well, vehicle.
When is a car not a car? When it’s a Renault Twizy. Classed as a “heavy quadricycle” by the French carmaker, this all-electric four wheeler is unusual to say the least. Due to launch in March 2012, it’s definitely for fair weather use only – it is open at the sides – and it is a city-only car as well. But within these parameters, it’s an ambitious move that could work. And, at £7,000, an affordable one.
Talking of affordable city runarounds from France, we have a special offer on the new Peugeot 107 Urban – available from £115 per month. We’ve also got the popular Toyota Auris 1.4 D 4D available from £179 per month.
