Now that Wattsie has dusted himself down after Le Tour des Old Farts (read the last post here), he’s back driving the desk again at GWA Cars & Finance HQ. Catching our eye this week has been a major electric car launch from Renault and a birthday present from Sir Stirling Moss.
What’s so special about the new zero-emissions Renault Fluence Z.E? Well, when it hits the road in 2012 it will be one of the most affordable electric cars around, according to the French manufacturer. Priced at £17,850 (including the government’s Plug-In grant), the company has undercut its rivals in search of sales.
The car has a range of 115 miles on a single battery charge and this battery will cost £75 per month to lease. While I think the price of electric cars is moving in the right direction, and Renault’s move is likely to push this level down even further as rivals respond, the battery charge seems a bit unnecessary.
Nevertheless, the Renault Fluence Z.E. looks good. GWA can reserve the new car and source other Renaults, such as the new Renault Megane Coupe, which we have on offer from £199 a month.
Ramping up the speed a bit, Sir Stirling Moss has bought his wife a new Aston Martin for her birthday. Not a Vantage or Virage as you might expect, but a Cygnet. “A proper bit of British luxury”, he called it. The Cygnet is based on the Toyota IQ and we have one of those on the forecourt: a 2009 Toyota IQ 3 1.33 3-door VVTi for £8,995.
