According to Warranty Direct, the most reliable car on the road today is the Toyota Corolla. It won’t turn many heads, but at the same time it won’t cost you a fortune at the garage. Others at the top of the warranty company’s list are the Sukuzi Alto, the Honda HR-V, the Ford Fiesta and the Honda Jazz.

I’m not too surprised by the list – Japanese cars do have a good reputation for reliability – and I’m glad to see the good old Ford Fiesta up there. Of course, not everybody wants a city run-around (with the exception of the Honda HR-V, the top five are small cars). Aston Martin has just unveiled its new V12 Zagoto endurance racer concept car, on the shores of Lake Como no less, and nothing about this car is small. It’s going to cost more at the petrol station, more at the garage, more everywhere really, but it’d be worth it. It looks phenomenal.

Talking of good looks, and this one perhaps should have made my list of best-looking cars last week, we have a 2008 Porsche Carerra 911 Semi Auto 2-door Coupe on the forecourt for £49,995. Basalt black and begging to be driven, including by me (but the bank manager may have something to say about that). We’ve also got a lovely 2006 BMW Z4 Sport Roadster Convertible for £10,995. I’d like both.
