Formula E is a new FIA single-seater championship and the world’s first fully-electric racing series.
Launched in Beijing in September the calendar runs through to June 2015.The championship competes in the heart of some of the world’s leading cities – including London, Beijing and Miami. This season, 10 teams, each with two drivers, will go head-to-head creating a unique and exciting racing series designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans.
It represents a vision for the future of the motor industry. Aiding the framework for R&D around the electric vehicle market. Leading to an increased interest in these cars and promoting sustainability. The championship is based around three core values of Energy, Environment and Entertainment.
McLaren Electronics Systems are providing the electric powertrain. Meanwhile, Williams Advanced Engineering, are supplying the batteries producing 270bhp. The cars top speed is 150 MPH and will get to 60 in 3 seconds.
The first race in Beijing was a success with Lucas Di Grassi taking 1st place with the Audi Sport ABT team.
The second season of Formula E will operate as an ‘open championship’, allowing teams and manufacturers the opportunity to showcase their own electrical energy innovations.
